I clearly remember the day many years ago when I registered my first QQ account carefully and unskillfully, I never thought social network would be so helpful not only to myself but to people all over the world. Quite aware of the consequent damage it has brought as I am, on balance I hold the stance that the merits of social networking sites outweigh their demerits.

The threshold advantage of them is that it makes the impossible possible. As for me, it never occurred to me that I can actually get to know and even become friends with people from other countries. Thanks to various kinds of social websites and applications, I am acquainted with some foreigners who are very friendly and enjoy sharing their daily life with me. What’s more, we students do not have to travel to and fro on a daily basis, instead, we can devote their traveling time to study more. In addition, computers furnish an even richer variety of choices so that pupils do not have to be restrained to study subjects arbitrarily chosen by their universities or teachers. The last but not least, as a person who has an crazy obsession with traveling but don’t have enough time to complete my dreams, social networking sites provide me with all the information I want. Beautiful scenery and mysterious stories no longer seem to be totally unreal to me, they give me courage and motivation to never quit bearing a hope in my mind that someday I will be there and savor everything fantastic that the world has to offer.

As I bury myself in social networking sites, I realize that there does exist some obvious and even underlying harm, but as the famous old saying goes, “no pain, no gain”. As long as we equip ourselves with necessary skills to deal with these damages, we can safely relish the fun and assistance. The first rule we should stick to is that never exposing our true identity unless we are crystal clear that it’s safe. Once being exposed to the malicious people, our personal information can become a tool to threaten us or steal money from us. The second rule is that we should never trust strangers with regard to money sometimes we should even not trust our friends. Because nowadays it’s becoming much more easier to steal other’s account, so it’s likely that the friend who is asking you to lend him some money is not him at all.

Social Networking Sites: Positive or Negative?

In the context of the information technology, the cutting-edge technologies have permeated almost every part of our life. The social networking has been a controversial issue since other people began to realize that the theft of identity threats the personal information security. However, there is always a disagreement concerning a certain point of view. Others hold the opinion that the advancement of people’s living standard based on the social networking sites. It seems the issue has been thrust into the limelight recently. From my perspective, I harbor the view that social networking sites bring more advantages than dangers.

The conspicuous benefit is that these sites facilitate the spread of knowledge and trigger much greater efficiency in many aspects of daily life. Take my younger sister for example, she lived in a remote town far from city center, where most people know about each other but have few acquaintances outside the town. Social networking sites are the effective way for her to make more friends without going out of the town and meeting them in reality. Several years ago, she felt her social life was limited. But today, she has a lot of friends online who lived in different places yet share common interests.

The influence is not confined to what is mentioned above. What’s more, it promotes the economic prosperity. The companies using networks to develop business by selecting technological ventures for investment, and the firms can provide networking advice to the investee companies.

Perhaps the hugest blessing is that these sites conducive to sustainable development of economy and society, providing more jobs and opportunities for employers. From a simple contrast what it is now and what may happen if these social networking sites are banned. We can come to the conclusion that these sites will indeed help employers directly possess the requirement of companies and send their resume through the network. When there are no such social networking sites, it seems that our work world is restricted and sometimes insularly. Sooner or later, our minds become fixed because we know nothing but our own city — that is the center of our world. As there are no social networking sites, we become less and less able to accept any new information which will not fit in with our existing social lifestyle. And weighing in minds, the factors related to career, we can figure out that the employment rate will rise. That is because some people use Internet to expand their companies and their knowledge in other fields.

Therefore, it is feasible for us to enjoy our online social life. These sites help us to spread information and share our culture and lifestyle. That’s why social networking sites benefit society, it offer everything to facilitate our online social life.
